Texans in Congress press for delay in shuttle’s demise

The Texas congressional delegation pressed ahead Tuesday with an uphill, election-year effort to boost NASA’s $17.3 billion budget so the space agency can close the five-year gap between retirement of the shuttle fleet and the next generation of manned spacecraft.

Shuttle phaseout could force cutbacks at space station

The nation’s three-ship space shuttle fleet faces “significant challenges” in completing construction and continuing operation of the $31 billion International Space Station, raising the possibility of Draconian cutbacks at the orbiting exploration and scientific facility, the Government Accountability Office warned Congress on Thursday.
