The Last Supper in Jerusalem

Christians come from all over the world to visit the many sites were they believe Jesus either visited or spent time. They want to walk the areas the he walked and they want to learn where he learned. They want to see and feel the places that he walked in hopes of a stronger connection to him and his message.

One of the many stops along the way is the room of the last supper which is were he was said to have had his last supper with his disciples before he was crucified. Visitors find it on Mount Zion out side the Dormition Abbey. Because of the many transformations of the city over hundreds of years, scholars know that the building that is there today is not the actual building of the last supper. They do believe that the current building was built on top of or right next to the ruined building of this Christian history.

There are many Christian sites that were ruined over time and had some other faith built over it so it is hard to find the proof of the declared sites. Still, people travel to the Jerusalem hotels to see if they can get some sort of feeling or clue into the truth they believe in so deeply.

Summer in Hawaii Includes Swimming With Dolphin

My nephew went on a trip with is grandparents and cousins on his father’s side of the family last summer. The reason I bring it up is because he claims to have had one of the greatest vacations of his life while he was there. I’ve never been to Hawaii, and while I knew there were fabulous beaches and great views and all that, some of the experiences he described were surprising and really attractive sounding. Not that beautiful beaches is unattractive.

One of his favorite activities on his trip was when he got the chance to swim with dolphins and other marine life. He admitted he was a little hesitant at first but was so amazed by the peacefulness he felt in the water and swore he felt something like love from the dolphins. He described it like an immediate friendship and understanding of sorts.

He also had some great food while he was there and mentioned only having to share a room with one cousin during their stay in one of the Hawaii five star hotels . He loves seafood and says he had the best grilled shrimp in a cafe right on the beach. I believe he had shrimp or some other shell fish every day and likely at every meal, but that’s my nephew. He spent a great deal of time on the beach and one of the things I remember most about his trip is that he returned home a much darker colored version of himself. Oh, and I also enjoyed the Hawaiin t-shirt he brought me. Maybe next year I’ll do the same thing for him.

Hilo Hatti in Waikiki

The history of Waikiki is as long and complex as any of the islands in the region. Volcanic activity changed its geography two thousand years ago, making it into the beach paradise that it is today. The first Polynesian inhabitants came in the 12th century, and their presence lead, through subsequent generations, into stories of famous wars and celebrations throughout the years when it was self-ruled. Changes in the colonial era are complicated, certainly, and often show a difficult history, leading to a present where tourists can enjoy their time in Waikiki luxury hotels .

Many times exist simultaneously, then, in contemporary Waikiki. Even the splendid present can remind one of something much more eternal. The sensation of being alone on a beach can muster up the stuff of dreams. It can also remind of the last century, when people were just beginning to explore the island, and enjoy its many gifts. As if there were any doubt that the past can exist in the present, purchasing a new Hawaiian shirt can evoke a kind of double consciousness.

The boutique stores with Hilo Hattie ‘s name on them are not referencing an idea, but a real person. Hilo Hattie was an extraordinary performer, born at the turn of the 20th century, and worked through the decades, changing the face of Waikiki for the world at large. Her way of performing hapo haole was a masterful manipulation of images and sounds, and was vastly entertaining. The legacy still lives.
