Scientists See Moon as Research Outpost, Training Ground

MOFFETT FIELD, California — One of the host of challenges facing NASA as the agency plans to rekindle robotic and human exploration of the moon is the development of a corps of investigators and technologies suitable for long-term missions akin to the research stations that dot Antarctica.

NASA releases Orion crash photos

Parachute Test Fails for NASA’s New Spaceship

Orion Parachute Test Goes… Ah, Not Well

Yep, They’re Gonna NEED To Fix This A preliminary test of the parachute system designed to softly return NASA’s upcoming Crew Exploration Vehicle to Earth failed in spectacular fashion last month, resulting in an Orion-sized dent in the Arizona desert landscape.

Orion mock-up crashes in desert

From NASA reports A test set-up parachute failed during the July 31 test of parachutes for the recovery system for the Orion Crew Exploration Vehicle. NASA released photos of the crash on Tuesday.
